17th Chief, Army Nurse Corps Has Died

Retired Brigadier General Connie L. Slewitzke, 17th Chief of the Army Nurse Corps, died on 2 September 2019. BG Slewitzke led the ANC as Chief from 1983 to 1987, culminating a distinguished career that began with her initial appointment as a first lieutenant in 1957, after which she rapidly rose in rank and responsibility in the Corps. After several assignments in the US and Korea, she was assigned as Chief Nurse of first the 36th Evacuation Hospital then the 6th Convalescent Center in Vietnam. Her subsequent staff assignments in MEDCOM Europe and HQ, Health Services Command and as Chief Nurse in Korea and at Letterman Army Medical Center led to her selection as Assistant Chief, ANC, and then as Corps Chief. In retirement BG Slewitzke lived in Northern Virginia. Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery burial arrangements are pending.
